If you google Chantoozies (it’s all in the spelling you see!), you’ll find plenty of info. Ally Fowler is the girl to which you refer.

    Chantoozies!

I was hoping someone could provide details about the 1983 Ash Wednesday appeal concert, date/line up/location etc

  5. Leighton G on June 26, 2009 at 6:06 pm

The Prefects were a band that I worked for as a sound engineer about 1983/4 I can’t seem to find much about them anywhere. They had at least one single that made it onto the charts

  6. Martin Shanahan on July 20, 2009 at 5:38 pm

In early 1971 I attended a concert at Paddington which featured among other artists a group which my (faulty) recollection tells me was called Heart n Soul.

The band had a hit which I think was called Lazy Life. The band had 8 – 10 members (a big band!)

Any help to locate information on this band – and even point me to a copy of that song, would be very gratefully received.

    Best wishes,

    Martin

There is not an awful lot of info around. Band from the late 60’s early 70’s Graeme (Vocal) and Ian Willington (Guitar) were the main band members. Along with most of the bands of the time line up changes were par for the course.
A number of recordings most notably the single ‘Lazy Life’ released through Festival Records (May 1969)

      fine band they were too

Gees that’s a drag. Whilst engagaging and pertaking in the sounds of the era I am visciously thrust into silence and to text screen that presents like a navigational index when I navigate within your site.

Bit of a mood breaker me thinks—–

Sorry I seem to be a bit opinonated, and unshakable personality trait I guess. Still love the site but might take a bit of work to fully engage with your site.

Oops there is another inescapable trait “Lazy”

  8. Karen on January 23, 2010 at 1:03 pm

I know a bit about music from the 1980’s to the late 90’s if your interested. I’m actually writing a blog with my favourite bands from A to Z and when I’m ready to share the information I’ll email you a link.

For the my blog A to Z I’m looking for information on a band (from Melbourne) called Flotsam Jetsam (not the thrash metal band of the same name). I think they were from Melbourne but I could be wrong, sometime between 1982 and 1990 at a guess and also information on a Sydney band called Kam Sha. If you can help please contact me via Twitter. Many thanks, Karen

    • Dani on July 25, 2010 at 1:58 pm

      Hi Karen,
Flotsam Jetsam where definately from Sydney; google Stephen Ferris, and am pretty sure Cam Sha where the ones from Melbourne. Hope that helps.

    • Gruntrat on February 11, 2011 at 11:09 pm

Hi Karen, please let me know when your blog is online??
      Cheers… Gruntrat

  9. hilton donaldson on February 1, 2010 at 1:47 am

    Dear Karen,
The Flotsam Jetsam your looking for can be found at a radio station called JJJ.The man your looking for adopted a new role away from music to subsequent his income. He’s either Jay or the Doctor. Give them a ring.

  10. Tracey on February 4, 2010 at 4:57 pm

    Hi Karen/Hilton,
Flotsam Jetsam were a Sydney band around in the late eighties (and so far too long ago for either Jay or the Doctor to have been members). I’ve just grabbed my vinyl copy of “Power” which featured Terry Serio and the band members were: Stephen Ferris, Nick Ferris, Tony Gilbert, John Swanton, Peter Ciobo and Ashley Cadell.

Wondering if anyone knows who sang, ‘the Fly and the Spider’. I’m thinking it was a short-lived Australian pop band of the mid/late 80’s.

    • Annette on November 15, 2010 at 4:28 pm

The band was the non stop dancers. They also had Shake this City, using manequinns instead of people in the video.

  16. josh on June 20, 2010 at 3:42 pm

Just wondering if anyone recalls a band called World that had a minor hit with a song called Picture Book ??

  17. Annette on June 22, 2010 at 6:02 pm

Hi Sean. The song you refer to if it’s the one I have is Spider and the Fly by Non Stop Dancers. I don’t have a year it was produced. The mostly known track was Shake this City where the video was about two manequins going out.
    Cheers Annette

    • Brett Laird on October 19, 2010 at 4:00 am

Band member, Frank Celenza and I’m pretty sure Eddie Parise were members of The Boys .They both went on to be part of the original lineup of the Baby Animals. I have two singles, When You’re Lonely and Weoh, Weoh, Weoh.

Singles released, including B sides were:

      “When You’re Lonely”/”It Doesn’t Matter”
      “Hurt Me Babe”/”Coming Home”
      “Weoh, Weoh, Weoh”/”One Way”
“Don’t Say No”/”Why’d Ya Do That”
      “Lonely Dreamers”/”Cold Mind”

There is a Facebook page set up by 2 former members Lino and Cam Del Roio.

Is there anybody out there that has any info on the band ‘Wildland’ from the early 90’s that they could post on this site. I saw them supporting Joe Satriani at the Enmore Theatre and was blown away, so much so I went out the next day and bought what I believe is their only album ‘In This Lifetime’ which is brilliant!!

Would love to know what happened to them?

Back in 1977 at the Grand Hotel – Broadway in Sydney there was a Punk band called ‘Shock Treatment’, three piece band, great guys and a HUGE sound!!

would any one know about a band in the early 70s called buffalo

    • Recko on August 16, 2011 at 9:13 am

Buffalo were a great band, I first saw them in 74. If you’re in Sydney you can still see the singer Dave Tice along with Mark Evans (AC/DC) play the Sandringham in Newtown on a saturday arvo. All the Buffalo albums have been remastered & are available through http://www.aztecmusic.net There is a great history of the band in Murray Englehearts book Blood, sweat & beers which examines the pub rock era. Originally formed by Pete wells on bass & Dave Tice on vocals. They were signed to the Vertigo label & were renowned not only for their music but also for controversial album covers. Only want you for your body is listed in NME magazines sickest album covers of all time. Pete Wells left to form Rose Tattoo. After the band broke up Dave Tice went England & joined the Count Bishops & worked with others as well. Since coming back to OZ he has been in many lineups The Headhunters,Dave Tice band,Mothers Little Gringos, Tice & Evans etc. Well worth checking out.

      • Judy on November 7, 2011 at 7:40 pm

Thanks for the info Recko, I loved that band and saw them around Sydney in mid 70’s. I remember them particularly doing a gig at Blacktown Showground (must be 75, or 76) with Madam Lash helping them out, ha ha. Boy they had a heavy sound, pioneers for heavy metal we know today. Cheers

  30. Nicole on October 4, 2011 at 1:02 am

There was an australian band called “Celebration” and my family says I saw them play somewhere. They are no longer together, but I was wondering if they made any CD’s or tapes?
    Thanks.

  31. Bob Yates on October 13, 2011 at 9:17 am

I used to own a fantastic album in mid 70’s called (I think) ‘Birth Of The Sun’. It was by an Aussie with (I think) an italian kinda name, first name might have been Ray… I loaned it to someone (while pissed!) and never got it back and never could remember who it was. Which is a bit like how it generally was in the 70’s!
Anyway, this album was way ahead of nits time. Anyone remeber it? Double Jay used to play it quite a bit.

    • GeeTee on October 14, 2011 at 12:17 pm

Google is your friend!! His name was Ray Rivamonte. From reading a couple of items it seems he couldn’t get a record deal in Aust so went to the US and recorded this album: http://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/ray_rivamonte/birth_of_the_sun/?rate

A few ebay listings came up in the search so it looks like you could get a copy of the album if you want to.

      Loved it/would love a copy
theres a copy out there somewhere with my name on it
It and 400 or so others were ripped off me and hocked/pawned by a junkie friend(?) way back
      Loved it/would love a copy

  33. Bob Yates on October 26, 2011 at 2:49 pm

Thanks Gee Tee, of course it was Ray Rivamonte!!!!! Just got the message you wrote a couple of weeks ago…many thanks. I will see if I can snaffle a copy. It was never a ‘hit’ or big seller, so would think it was pretty rare…we’ll see. And I remember reading at the time that he couldn’t get a deal in Oz and recorded it o/s. Brilliant album! Wondered what happened to Ray? I don’t recall him ever gigging in Oz or hearing of him in any way shape or form. Tragic.

  34. Bruce on October 27, 2011 at 3:04 pm

Does anybody remember seeing a band called Vixen that used to play the usual haunts in Sydney during the early 80’s. Ithink the had a few singles but no album released.
Also there was another good hard rock band called Killer changed their name to Surrender, released an album and then disappeared. Be interesting any news on them or if anyone else saw them.

    • Lisa on August 4, 2013 at 12:14 pm

Hi there, my friend and I went to every show (i think) that Vixen did in Melbourne, a long time ago but we loved them, punk rock, out there, we saw them at the Anglers Club which was a lesbian haunt, although we were not lesbians, but it was the 80’s so no-one cared! They also did a gig somewhere else, possibly Bob Starky’s Jump Club? not sure. then they vanished but I am still sure it was Deborah Conway who was the lead singer. I am sure you are right they released at least one single. I think i bought it! cheers Lisa

      • Tom Watson on August 4, 2013 at 4:28 pm

I remember Vixen. Interesting band that I quite liked at the time. I think that we did gigs with them at the Stagedoor, a Rag Trade Ball maybe 1980 and later at Selinas? They always caught my attention

  35. Recko on October 28, 2011 at 7:32 am

Yeah Bruce I remember seeing Vixen. From memory Pete Kekel was on keys & Bronte Wake on guitar. Can’t remember Killer but there was so many bands going at that stage it is hard to keep track of them all.

    • Gruntrat on October 28, 2011 at 3:28 pm

In 1980, Peter Kekel was in Swanee when I met him. Sadly he passed away some years back.

      • Recko on November 2, 2011 at 7:57 am

Yep Pete Kekel went from Vixen to Swanee. I was in a share house with him at Kogarah from 79 Very sad that he is gone.

        • ADS on September 19, 2013 at 4:21 pm

@ Recko – Just a slight correction – Pete Kekel went from the Jillian Easton Band (not sure of the spelling) to Swanee. He never played with Vixen. Jillian Easton had Phil Emmanuel, Greg Plimmer Drums & Peter K on keyboards. There were more band members but I don’t recall their names.

Looking for any info on Wayne Green or the band Wayne Green and the Phantoms from Perth.

    • andyp on October 26, 2012 at 10:25 pm

don’t know about the phantoms but wayne green sang on the second album by BOYS called inside the cage.someone said he was a taxi driver in perth recently.

    • Wayne Clark on November 10, 2013 at 12:53 pm

Hi Linda, Wayne Green and the Phantoms started in Perth around 1980. Probably one of the rockiest, bad boy bands of the era. Went through many line up changes over the years, main 2 members Alex Wilson on Bass and Wayne Green vocals. Some of the guitarists were Ken “beast ‘ Hughes ( 20 yrs + Zydecats ), Dennis James( now living in U.S.A ), Gary (verandah) Shuttleworth (company of men,Kevin Smith band), Ian Sanderson( Sydney) and Henk Langendoen( Perth ). Original drummer was Terry Doyle( Queensland), and later Dave (?). Im 100% sure Wayne never drove taxis! Might be getting mixed up with Henk who did. Last time I saw Greenso play was at the Charles hotel in North Perth in June or July 2013 with Company of men ( Rob Bailey ex acdc on bass), supporting Rose Tattoo. Still singing up a storm at 60+ and one of my favourite front men to ever grace a Perth stage.

    • Wayne Clark on November 11, 2013 at 1:32 am

Guitarist Glen Goldsmith (England) and sorry for the memory drop out: founding member, guitarist and co/writer Ken Stivey….

    • Claaarky on November 22, 2013 at 3:09 pm

Ken Stivey actually played drums early on, and Rick Hadlow played guitar and co wrote some of there early songs. James Baker( ex hoodoo Gurus, Painkillers) also played drums with them at the backstage bar in 1994, that was recorded as a possible live album, but still remains unreleased, as it was a pretty wild night.

Film clip of pop song had industrial feel.

  42. Mark fuller on August 14, 2013 at 5:52 am

I saw a band in the early nineties which was just two girls. They brought out maybe one album which my brother stole.they were Sydney based and one of their songs features sometimes in tv shows. The name of the band is escaping me and driving me crazy. I remember one girl was skinny and blonde and the other brunette.i saw them live at parramatta hotel around 1993. I am currently in the Middle East and can you believe most cars have cassette players. All my old cassettes oh I wish I had them here lol.
