Australian Music Role Of Honour For 2020

This year sadly saw a number of prominent musicians pass away so I’d like to honour them here with the Australian Music Roll Of Honour For 2020. If there is someone I’ve overlooked, please let me know in the comments and I’ll add them to the list. I’d also love to read your thoughts and memories of this group of wonderful musicians.

Don Burrows

Don Burrows was a renowned Australian jazz and swing musician. Burrows was born on the 8th of August 1928 and died on the 12th of March 2020 aged 91.

Stephan Fidock, drummer for The Reels and manufacturer of handcrafted drums, died on the 26th of April 2020.

Moving Pictures drummer Paul Freeland died on the 18th of April 2020.

Madder Lake drummer Jac Kreemers died on the 13th of November 2020.

Mi-Sex bass player Don Martin died on the 10th of August 2020 aged 66 after a battle with cancer.

Paul Matters, early bass player for AC/DC, died on the 14th of October 2020.

John Meyer, guitarist for bands such as Chain, Rose Tattoo, Fatty Lumpkin, and others, died on the 1st of September 2020.

Max Merritt was born on the 30th of April 1941 in Christchurch, New Zealand, and died on the 24th of September 2020 aged 79.

Tim Partridge, bass player for bands such as Company Caine, Mighty Kong, Kevin Borich Express, and Sons Of The Vegetal Mother, died on the 12th of September 2020 aged 70.

Ronnie Peel aka Rockwell T James died on the 1st of November 2020. Ronnie played guitar, bass and sang in bands such as The La De Da’s, John Paul Young And The Allstars, Cheetah, Scattered Aces, and more.

Helen Reddy was born on the 25th of October 1941 in Melbourne and died on the 29th of September 2020 in Los Angeles, USA.

Lisa Schouw, singer with Girl Overboard, died on the 2nd of October 2020.

Peter Starkie was born in 1948 in Sydney, NSW and died on the 15th of September 2020 aged 72. Peter played guitar with bands such as Skyhooks and Jo Jo Zep And The Falcons.

Wayne Stevens, aka Bones Hillman, was born in 1958 in New Zealand and died on the 8th of November 2020. Stevens played bass for The Swingers before joining Midnight Oil in 1987.

Richard Wright, drummer and vocalist for The Groop, died in 2020

      Oh dear, shame about Les Horder. What did he die from and when? He was my mum’s long term boyfriend back in the ‘60’s .
