4 Aussie Music Sites You Need To Check Out
Australian Music has become a popular topic over the past few years and some wonderful websites have appeared. It’s so heartening to see the amount of effort going in to record our great Australian music history.
I know the amount of work it takes to get a site up & all these guys need to be congratulated for their work. Check ’em all out & don’t forget to leave a comment or two on their sites to say hello.
Trashed By Time
Run by a gentleman by the name of GruntRat, this site features some quite rare and exotic Australian recordings that are no longer available.
In his own words…
“I’m just a bloke trapped in a 1970’s & 1980’s musical timewarp. This was the era of great live music in Australia. For me, as a youth in Melbourne, this was the heartbeat of the music scene. It was a time like no other in our history and I doubt it can ever been repeated… that innocence is lost!”
Rock On Vinyl
In a similar vein is Rock On Vinyl. It’s an incredibly detailed site with a huge range of material and a great deal of information about each recording.
It’s run by AussieRock of Melbourne who says…
“If it wasn’t released on Vinyl or as a bootleg / soundboard recording – then you won’t find it here.”
Friday On My Mind
I don’t know where these guys get such diverse and wide ranging music collections but here’s another gem. Friday On My Mind is run by Deutros of Sydney and his site is…
“A place to post my Aussie vinyl out of print CD’s and Cassettes that I’ve collected since I was a lad. All the posts contain artwork the singles have labels and if they have them the picture cover.”
Debbie Kruger
Debbie has a wonderful collection of material of all types on radio station 2SM from the 1970’s. It’s a period I remember well as I was a teenager myself in Sydney and went to many of the concerts Debbie writes about. Simply brilliant!
“From 1975 to 1982 Sydney radio station 2SM played an intrinsic role in my life. Actually, that’s an understatement. To a degree, 2SM was my life. There were lots of other things going on, of course, but while for most of my friends radio was just something going on in the background, for me it was very much in the foreground. The jocks were my pals who got me through each day, and my visits to the station became more frequent as I got older.”
