Unlocking The Doors – The Basement 8th April 2016

Unlocking The Doors

Unlocking The Doors are a group of highly talented musicians. They played two sets. The Basement is such a prestigious venue. The light show always brilliant and the sound perfect. I first heard of them through a friend on FB who lives down there way, at Wollongong. She mentioned how good they were and I should film/photograph them. So I contacted the band and arranged to do just that.

The first thing you notice about this band is how close to the original they really are. Their sound is as good as it gets. I have filmed a few Doors shows and this show is one of the best I have ever seen.

Richie (Vocals) is obviously a Doors and in particular Jim Morrison fan. He shows the same mannerisms and passion of Jim. I was very impressed with the way he portrays his character. The songs the band plays are all the well known ones. They have all the parts down pat, and keep to the authentic sounds of the Doors. Sandy (Organ and Keyboard Bass) is just an inspiring musician. She plays as good as the original music by Ray Manzarek. Chris (Drums) keeps that steady beat that sounds so much like John Densmore, if you close your eyes it’s as though you’re back there. Mick (Guitar) is just a great Guitarist in the vein of Robby Krieger.

In Soul Kitchen there is a great part where Mick (Guitar) and Guest Harmonica Player Mark Allen, play back and forth to each other. All the songs from the night took me back to when the Doors were still around. They re-created the atmosphere of that time. Unlocking The Doors are a brilliant band.
