Hush
Hush were a Sydney based Glam-Rock band of the 1970’s. They were, like many bands of the time, true “Road Warriors” who worked hard and worked often and appeared regularly on TV shows like Countdown.
The original lineup was formed in 1971 and consisted of Keith Lamb on vocals, Chris Nolan on keyboards, Robin Jackson on guitar, Rick Lum on bass and John Koutts on drums. In 1972 Nolan, Jackson and Koutts left and were replaced by Les Gock on guitar and Chris “Smiley” Pailthorpe on drums. This lineup is probably considered the “classic” version of Hush. They initially came to the attention of the broader public after making the NSW finals of the 1972 “Hoadley’s Battle Of The Bands”.
They enjoyed a solid recording career from 1972 through to 1977 with their biggest successes being in the mid 1970’s with Bonie Maronie” and “Glad All Over”. Their colourful live performances also translated well on to a brand new medium of the time, Colour TV.
Jacques De Jongh joined in 1976 as a second guitarist but Rick Lum left soon after and they continued again as a four-piece band. They disbanded officially in 1977 although various lineups have reformed for odd performances more recently.

I had the great pleasure to see Hush a few times back in the early 70’s. One of many great Aussie bands to influence me as I was becoming a muso ….. sorry, a drummer!!
Hush at the Hordern Pavilion.
For the first time ever in Australian music history, a band will attempt to perform an entire album live on stage.
Following a nation-wide tour in which Hush has performed in town with a population of 15,000 and above, a unique show has been devised by Hush to celebrate the end of their “Get Rocked” tour.
On Sunday, July 21, Hush will stage a spectacular concert at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion, performing their album “Get Rocked” in its entirety. This album has sold over 45,000 copies so far, creating 3 Gold Albums for the band. Producer Ernie Rose, of Armstrong Studio in Melbourne, will take the role of sound engineer and special effects man for this show, bringing his own mixer and his famous red PA system. Peter Sullivan, arranger and keyboard player on the album, will be onstage too, along with a melletron player, to help recreate the orchestral sounds on the songs, which, as everyone who has heard the album will be aware, are musically ambitious.
Hush being Hush, the sets and costumes will be as brilliant as the music. Drummer Smiley Pailthorpe and Rick Lum, Bass player, have designed the spectacular costumes that are currently being carefully stitched by Ferrars, Melbourne’s theatrical costumier.
John English (making his first appearance since his role as Judas Iscariot in stage show Jesus Christ Superstar, as well as the band of which English was an early member , Sebastien Hardie, a symphonic styled rock band, will be Hush’s special guests on the day.
And if that’s not enough to convince you not to miss what will be one of the country’s most spectacular concerts ever, at the end of the “Get Rocked” performance, Hush will change costumes and come back on stage to perform highlights of their regular concert set!

I loved HUSH since they began I 1973 i saw HUSH live at the GREENACRE YMCA HALL WATERLOO ROAD GREENACRE N S W I WAS 13 & I loved Les Gock I was able to get in touch with Jaques about a year ago on FB I LOVED HUSH & I STILL DO TODAY & Im56 yrs old today I LOVE HUSH FROM THE ORIGINALS AT THE BEGINNING RIGHT UP UNTIL THIS DAY. Oh I worked at the Newsagents at ROSELANDS &Les Gock came into the shop I nearly had a meltdown he was with his wife &I their little one who would have been about 2 yrs old what a beautiful memory xxxxxxx
